# How to Add a New Song to the Diskograf Music Catalogue

> Submit a missing Malaysian song to Diskograf, complete its core details and credits, and track it while it is under review.

If a song is missing from Diskograf, you can submit it to the catalogue. New songs are reviewed before they appear publicly, so include the most reliable information you have and check for duplicates first.

## Choose a song-entry path

After you open **Add a song**, choose the path that fits how you want to work. Both paths create the same song entry, collect the same information, autosave your in-progress draft, and send the submission for review.

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Classic form">
    The classic form opens the complete editor on one page. Use it when you already know the song details or want to move between sections in any order. Section navigation helps you jump between the YouTube video, title, credits, artwork, release date, genres, labels, streaming links, lyrics, notes, and duration.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Step-by-step wizard">
    The wizard presents the same editor one step at a time. Use it when you prefer a guided checklist. It shows your progress, checks required sections as you go, and keeps a live preview beside the form. Its final review step lets you check the record before submitting.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

<Note>
  You can switch between the **Classic form** and **Step-by-step wizard** while you work. Your in-progress draft carries over, so you do not need to start again.
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in">
    Sign in with your Diskograf account before you begin. If you do not have an account, [create one](/accounts) with **Sign in with Google** first.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check if the song already exists">
    Search for the song using its title and artist name. Try alternate spellings and romanisations when the title uses non-Latin script. If Diskograf finds similar titles while you are submitting, review them before adding a new entry.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Add a song">
    Open **Add a song** from the site header or search menu, then choose **Classic form** or **Step-by-step wizard**. Both paths create the same type of submission and send it for review when you submit it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete the song details">
    Add as much of the following information as you can:

    * **YouTube video** — the video linked to the song
    * **Song title** — the title as it appears on the release
    * **Lead performer** — the primary recording artist
    * **Artwork** — the cover image or other song artwork
    * **Release date** — when the song was released
    * **Genres** — the genres that describe the song
    * **Record label** — the label associated with the release
    * **Streaming links** — Spotify or Apple Music links, when available
    * **Lyrics, notes, and duration** — supporting information for the song

    The editor saves your progress as a draft while you work. You can return to complete optional fields later.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add credits">
    Use the credits section to document the full creative team. Select the role first, then search for the artist and add the credit. See [Credits](/contribute/credits) for the complete role list and editing workflow.

    Artists who already appear in the catalogue are suggested first. If the person is not listed, you can create an artist record from the editor.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and submit">
    Check the possible-duplicate suggestions, review the live preview, and agree to the music-information truthfulness pledge. Submit the song when the details are ready.

    The new song is **Under Review** until it is published. You are sent to the review area on your profile, where you can open and edit your pending submission.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## After review

Once the song is published, it appears in the public catalogue and on the credited artists' works. You can suggest later corrections from the song page with **Suggest an edit**. Your changes are attributed to your account and recorded in the song's activity.

<Note>
  For songs with Arabic script, Jawi, or other non-Latin titles, Diskograf uses a stable URL slug so the page can be shared reliably.
</Note>

<Tip>
  You do not need every optional field before submitting. Add the core information you can verify, then return to complete the record when you find more reliable sources.
</Tip>

For the detailed credit workflow, see [Add and Edit Song Credits](/contribute/credits).
