# Reporting Artist Impersonation on Diskograf: What to Do

> Learn how Diskograf handles false artist identity claims and how to report impersonation to protect the integrity of the Malaysian music archive.

Diskograf's artist identity system is built on trust. Impersonation — claiming to be an artist you are not — is strictly prohibited and taken seriously. The integrity of the catalogue depends on every artist profile being linked to the genuine person it represents. False identity claims undermine that foundation and harm the real artists whose work and reputation are affected.

## What Counts as Impersonation

Impersonation occurs any time you claim or create an artist profile as someone other than yourself. This applies regardless of how well-known the artist is — impersonating a celebrated musician and impersonating a lesser-known independent artist are treated with equal seriousness. Impersonation includes:

* **Claiming a profile belonging to another real artist** — submitting an identity claim for an existing catalogue entry when you are not that artist
* **Creating a fake profile using another artist's name or likeness** — establishing a new artist profile that misrepresents your identity as someone else
* **Acting on behalf of an artist without explicit authorisation** — managing or claiming a profile for another person unless you have been formally and explicitly authorised to do so by that artist

## Consequences of Impersonation

Impersonation is a serious matter on Diskograf. If a false identity claim is identified, Diskograf may take any or all of the following actions:

* **Investigate the claim** — Diskograf will examine the account, the claim, and any associated activity
* **Reject or reverse the identity claim** — a false claim will be denied or undone, restoring the profile to its correct state
* **Suspend or permanently ban the account** — accounts found to have submitted fraudulent claims may be suspended or removed from the platform entirely
* **Refer to applicable law** — under Malaysian law, deliberate impersonation can constitute identity theft and may carry criminal consequences

<Warning>
  Deliberate false artist identity claims on Diskograf may violate Malaysian law. Diskograf will investigate and act on all credible reports, and reserves the right to escalate matters where appropriate.

## How to Report Impersonation

If you believe someone is impersonating you or another artist on Diskograf, act promptly. Follow these steps to report it:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Contact Diskograf by email">
    Send a report to **[diskografcom@gmail.com](mailto:diskografcom@gmail.com)**. This is the primary channel for impersonation reports and is monitored by the Diskograf team.
  </Step>

    Provide the full URL of the artist profile you believe has been falsely claimed or created. This allows Diskograf to locate and review the specific entry without delay.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Describe why you believe the claim is fraudulent">
    Explain clearly why you believe the identity claim is false. Include any relevant context — such as your relationship to the artist, evidence of the real artist's identity, or details about the suspected impersonator.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Await Diskograf's response">
    Diskograf will investigate the report and take appropriate action based on its findings. You will be contacted if further information is needed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Honest mistakes — such as a fan who accidentally submitted a claim they genuinely believed was legitimate — are handled differently from deliberate impersonation. If you submitted a claim in error or misunderstood the process, contact Diskograf at **[diskografcom@gmail.com](mailto:diskografcom@gmail.com)** to explain the situation. Misunderstandings can often be resolved without punitive action.
