# Get Started with Diskograf: Explore Malaysian Music

> Learn how to explore the Malaysian music catalogue, search for songs and artists, and make your first contribution to Diskograf today.

Diskograf is designed to be immediately useful. You can start exploring the Malaysian music catalogue right now without an account, and when you're ready to give back to the archive, signing up takes less than a minute. This guide walks you through the essentials — from your first search to your first contribution.

<Tip>
  You can browse the full catalogue without an account — signing up is only needed to contribute. Dive in and get a feel for the database before you register.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Explore the Catalogue">
    Head to [diskograf.com](https://diskograf.com) to start browsing. The homepage surfaces recently added songs and active contributors so you can see what the community is working on. From there, navigate directly to an **artist page** to see their full discography and genre breakdown, or visit a **label page** to browse every release associated with a record company. Each song page lists the full credit roll — composer, lyricist, producer, performer, and more — so you always know the complete story behind a track.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search for a Song or Artist">
    Use the search bar at the top of any page to find exactly what you're looking for. A plain text query searches song titles, but Diskograf's search syntax gives you much more precision. For example, to find songs with "cinta" in the title by Siti Nurhaliza released in the 2000s, type:

    ```
    cinta artist:siti decade:2000
    ```

    You can combine as many filters as you need. Use `label:name` to search by record label, `year:2020` for an exact release year, or `decade:1990` for any year within a decade. See the [full search syntax reference](/browse/search) for every available filter and shorthand.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create an Account">
    When you're ready to contribute, open the sign-in page and choose **Sign in with Google**. If you're new to Diskograf, this also creates your account. During onboarding, upload a profile image, choose a display name and username, and select **Fan** or **Artist**. If you choose **Artist**, link an existing artist profile or create one if it is not listed. Your username becomes your public profile URL at `diskograf.com/yourusername`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a Contribution">
    Once you're logged in, open a song page and choose the action that matches what you know. Select **Claim credit** to add your linked artist identity and roles to an existing song. Select **Suggest an edit** to correct a published song. To add a missing song, choose **Add a song**, check for duplicates, and complete the submission form.

    New songs go to review before they appear in the public catalogue. You can track your submission from the **Under Review** section of your profile. See [Adding Songs](/contribute/adding-songs) and [Credits](/contribute/credits) for the full workflows.
